Exploring Alicante and the Costa Blanca, Spain

Monastery of Stanta Faz Exploring Alicante and the Costa Blanca, SpainAn annual amazing event takes place in April when 200,000 people attend attracting pilgrims from the city center to the Monastery of Santa Faz. The procession begins at 8 am and it takes about two hours to travel the five miles that makes up the course. Along the way there are a number of traditional stops such as “paraeta” where pilgrims gather for a breakfast with threads of anise and sweet wine.

What makes this event so touching is the devotion of the faithful who go to the monastery as it contains the veil with which Veronica wiped the bloodied face of Jesus. This relic has been faithfully worshiped by the locals from the first pilgrimage to the monastery for over 500 years in 1489.

Rarely can you get a better understanding of local customs and traditions than with the experience that is the Santa Faz Pilgrimage. South east Spain also offers much more than this day of devotion.

Travel Gadgets: Handy Gizmos for Stress-Free Travelling

Author: Anna Clare

travel1 150x150 Travel Gadgets: Handy Gizmos for Stress Free TravellingThere are so many things about travelling that can cause stress, that sometimes we wonder why we bother leaving the house at all.

For one thing, there’s the packing. Stressing about whether or not there’s room in your suitcase for everything you need on your trip can be a real headache – and if you go over your baggage weight limit, you’ll either have to pay the airline an excess baggage fee, or leave a few things behind.

But we say: Stress not! There are some excellent travel gadgets and accessories that can significantly reduce the stress of going on a trip, and we’ve selected a few of our favourites that can help you have a happier holiday.

Trace Me Luggage Tag

One of the things most likely to spoil your holiday is losing your luggage. Spending your entire trip wearing just the clothes you arrived in is painful enough, but knowing you’ll never see your precious suitcase contents again is deeply distressing.

With the Trace Me Luggage Tag you can greatly reduce the chances of losing your luggage forever. The Trace Me Luggage Tag is strong and durable, and contains an individual serial number and 2D bar code, linked for life to your registration details on a secure data storage system used by law enforcement agencies, airport baggage handling organisations and lost property services worldwide.

If your luggage goes astray, a simple scan of the Trace Me Luggage Tag will identify it as your property. Registering your Trace Me Luggage Tag is quick and easy to do online, and there are no recurring fees or subscription charges.

Travel Charger Adaptor

If you rely on mobile phones and other gadgets to stay in touch while travelling, the Travel Charger Adaptor is probably the most useful travel gadget you will ever own.

The Travel Charger Adaptor combines adaptors suitable for use throughout Europe, North America, Africa, Australasia and the Far East, as well as featuring a handy USB power socket for charging MP3 players and other gadgets that you would normally charge through your computer.

Digital Portable Luggage Scale

m dk s64301 Travel Gadgets: Handy Gizmos for Stress Free TravellingAirline baggage weight limits can be very confusing – they differ from one airline to another, and when you check your bags in at the airport there’s always that little nagging worry that you’ve exceeded the limit and will have to leave something behind or pay an excess baggage fee.

With the Digital Portable Luggage Scale, you’ll never have this worry again. This handy travel gadget can handle up to 50kg – before you leave home, simply attach it to your case, wait for the beep, and read the weight. If you’re over your baggage weight limit you can remove a few things and leave them at home, or pack them into your hand luggage instead.

The Digital Portable Luggage Scale can then be carried in your hand luggage so that you can check your bag weight again on the way home – which is very handy if you’ve stocked up on souvenirs and duty free goods during your holiday.

Paper Toiletries

m papersoap laundry Travel Gadgets: Handy Gizmos for Stress Free TravellingCamping and backpacking holidays are lots of fun, but without a car to carry all the equipment in, you need to be quite strict about what goes in your luggage.  Bottled toiletries can be heavy; even travel-sized bottles, if you carry enough of them, will weigh you down and make walking uncomfortable.

The best solution to this problem that we’ve seen is a fantastic range of paper toiletries that are ideal for travelling light. The range includes paper shampoo, paper shaving foam and paper anti-bacterial soap – simply remove a sheet from the small, lightweight pack, add water, and lather up.

Paper toiletries are also ideal for carrying in your hand luggage on flights; they’re not liquid, so they won’t break any no-liquid regulations when you go through security checks at the airport.

Portable Solar Charger

The Portable Solar Charger is another travel gadget that’s ideal for camping trips, when access to an electricity supply might be restricted.

The Portable Solar Charger contains a Li-Ion battery which is charged by the sun during the day. Once charged, the Portable Solar Charger can charge your mobile phone with enough power to talk for two hours, or load your MP3 player with power equivalent to six hours of listening time.

The Portable Solar Charger comes complete with cables and a selection of adaptors, making it suitable for a huge range of mobile phones as well as many iPod models.

20 Things Never To Forget For A Picnic

CH7826 thumb 150x150 20 Things Never To Forget For A PicnicWhen I was growing up, our family outings usually included a fun picnic beside a gently rolling stream somewhere. We always found great places to go that wasn’t always the city park. A patch of public land here; a bend in the river there! If you like to go on picnics it is kind of a drag when you’ve packed great food, but forgot to bring the blanket or even left out the paper plates. The best thing to do so you don’t forget something is to keep a basic list of items needed for a picnic. Here is our list.

 1. Food

This includes the main course, side dishes, condiments, bread, vegetables and dessert.

Picnics can have eating easy-to-cart-around foods. Fried chicken, sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs are all good examples. Some people like to cook at picnics and some people just like to bring food and snacks.

 are good examples.

 2. Drinks

It is important to stay hydrated during a picnic with all of the frisbee throwing or football tossing. Bring water, sodas, fruit drinks, beer, wine, coffee, tea or anything else you like to drink. Always be safe if you are drinking alcohol. Have a designated driver and follow park rules.

 3. Plates & Cups

We always used disposable plates and cups, but nowadays we are cognizant of the fact that Styrofoam products are not eco-friendly and can cause harm to the environment. Avoid using plastics too, unless you plan on recycling.

 4. Utensils

Include all of the basics including knives to cut things with.

 5. Serving Utensils

Usually something needs to be cut, so bring a knife with a serrated edge along with serving spoons and forks.

 6. Blanket or Table Cloth

If using it on the ground, it may be advisable to use a plastic liner underneath the blanket.

 7. Napkins

A must have. Bring more than enough. Whatever you don’t use can be brought back home.

 8. Towelettes

Wet towelettes are great for clean up if restrooms are not nearby. They can be used to clean a surface or a face.

 9. Trash Bags

Never leave trash after your picnic. Be responsible and get rid of your garbage.

 10. Canopy

picnic 150x150 20 Things Never To Forget For A Picnic This is not a requirement, but it is sure handy to have extra shade on a sunny day. It also offers a nice base for a picnic with a lot of people.

 11. Portable Table & Chairs

Bring collapsible tables and chairs. These can be folding chairs, camp chairs & tables. There are plenty to choose from at your local sporting goods store.

 12. Music

CD players or iPod docks are a great source of music that can be custom tailored for your listening pleasure.

 13. Bug Spray, Aspirin, Antacid, Band Aids, Sun Screen

You need all the short term medical basics at your picnic. Kids will inevitably get scrapes and you will probably get a headache from all the smiling you will be doing enjoying yourself.

 14. Ice

Bring several bags of ice to not only cool drinks, but to use in your cups.

 15. Leftovers Containers

It’s easier to carry food to a picnic than to bring it back home without the appropriate containers, so don’t forget to include extra containers. Otherwise you may be throwing out good food.

 16. Entertainment

You may want to include things like playing cards, badminton sets, footballs, frisbees, board games or whatever you will think will be fun. Try to bring things that will be used by a group rather than an individual.

 17. Camera

If you brought your phone, you can use the camera that comes with it, but bring a nicer camera if you have one. Don’t let these memories disappear.

 18. Portable Grill

If you like to cook on location, bring a grill or use one at a park if they have one. Include charcoal, lighter fluid, tongs, spatula and a grill brush for cleaning.

 19. Flashlights

You may be at your picnic having fun until after dark. Bring flashlights or lanterns just in case you need them.

 20. Toilet Paper

It never hurts to bring a couple of spare rolls of toilet paper on any picnic. Just saying!

picnic 2 150x150 20 Things Never To Forget For A PicnicBe flexible with what you bring to your own picnic. Add things or delete things, but make it fun! Picnics are all about getting together with people you care about. So invite that annoying Uncle that talks too much, your parents, all of your siblings and their kids, your family friends.

“Airport Security Is Made Greater With IP Cameras”

Improving Airport Security and Surveillance with IP Network Cameras

airport security t500 150x150 Airport Security Is Made Greater With IP CamerasIn light of past events, airport security has been a popular subject in the media for quite some time. Destination travelers and airport employees often report over crowded airports as being a major cause of anxiety.  Strategies must be routinely implemented in order to reassure those who must venture through the airport that it is a safe and secure place. IP network cameras are capable of monitoring airports and transmitting video feeds directly over the Internet, resulting in a safer environment and a security system that is both flexible and cost efficient.

The Benefits of IP Cameras in the Airport

The wireless capabilities of most IP network cameras enable them to be quickly and efficiently installed. Given that they are designed to capture digital images, it is possible to record inestimable amounts of data without the need for a significant amount of storage space.

The monitoring of IP cameras can be done remotely wherever Internet connectivity is possible.  This contributes to cooperation and productivity among security personnel as they are better able to monitor greater areas at the same time with the use of a single computer. Most IP network cameras come equipped with built-in motion detection capabilities.  This is known to be one of the most favorable advancements in modern security and surveillance. Cameras that are equipped with motion detection can be automatically activated should any unusual activity be recognized.

Airport Security Operations 1b2 150x150 Airport Security Is Made Greater With IP CamerasIP network cameras have become a thing of convenience for security staff everywhere.  Not only have they served to greatly reduce the level of travel crimes that can occur in airports around the world, but they have also helped to reassure tourists and staff that they are protected. When used in connection with Video Surveillance applications, their benefits in airport use can be greatly increased.

It is important to note that, despite advancements in technology, the use of IP network cameras should in no way be used to replace live security personnel.

Successful IP Network Surveillance

IP network cameras are a valuable tool used to deter criminal activity and indentify suspicious persons. When planning the layout of any IP camera system, it is important to carefully consider previous security history. For example: Have crimes gone unnoticed before? In what way was the previous system set up? How did the previous layout affect security objectives?

Since it is not always possible to have every corner of the airport under complete supervision, it is extremely important to arrange the security layout in such a way that blind spots are minimized. Any areas that are not within the view of the camera should be made known to security staff.  This will ensure that these areas are routinely checked and that the chance of criminal activity will be decreased.

It is crucial to ensure that each and every entrance to and from the airport is under video surveillance.  This includes fashioning the IP cameras in a way that it is possible to view the faces of every individual coming and going. Should a crime take place, IP cameras provide a clear image of the guilty party.  This will assist authorities considerably in apprehension and legal recourse.

How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps.

imagesCAY0LVTT 150x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. For somebody that is diagnosed with a disease, injury or other physical problems, that forces them to depend on other people,  a wheelchair, or various medical adjustments, it is sometimes unthinkable to go on holiday outside the Country of their residence.

There are not only problems they may find when travelling, but also problems where they can actually go that is suitable, and the things they have to arrange beforehand? Do they get to go on organized trips solely with handicapped people, or can they go alone? If they can go alone, can it be with friends or partners, is the medical system adequate for their needs as well? What suitable accommodation is available and where?

A lot of questions, so may I take you on an inside tour of the Costa Blanca for people with possible disability problems.

Because the Costa Blanca has a lot to offer and there is a lot of people there who understand this genuine ´problem´, it is possible that everyone can have a wonderful holiday in Spain.

imagesCAA5T220 120x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. For example,  some villa owners have done magic to their rental villa’s and turned them into a paradise for disabled people, to give all the comfort and luxury possible. They have adapted many things  in and around the accommodation for wheelchair access but have still managed to keep the villa looking like a holiday resort instead of a nursing home.

Another great asset is the Home Care Service that you can find all over the Costa Blanca. Not only are they so pleasant but there are several agencies available who speak several languages to accommodate your needs. These agencies provide a helping hand when required, for example, house keeping. They have fully qualified staff, Nurses and Care Assistants.  They can even help you organize and manage your day trips etc.

They will also help you when required for hospital checkups etc; they can also provide special care when needed.

Maybe this will guide you to having a lovely holiday in Spain.

Find the right transportation and accommodation.

imagesCA2N2DYL1 150x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. There are two ways of booking your holiday; either you book totally yourself on the internet, or you go to your local travel operator to find out what is the best suitable holiday out there for you.

May I remind you that the private villa’s not always are mentioned in the tour operator’s accommodations list?

By typing in the right keywords on Google you hopefully will find a lot of remarkable accommodations.

Flying

imagesCA4RHN9H 150x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. As for the flight most of us want to fly low cost, but that can create restrictions like the amount of baggage, space to sit, and flight attention etc. Flying low cost can also create extra costs if you want to take extra needed baggage, so your ticket may be surprisingly expensive….

images 150x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. So if you want to take your own mobile scooter with you for example you will have to check your airline information helpdesk to ascertain if they will take it on board. Some airlines will allow it but it is restricted to certain measurements such as height and length etc. My advice is to rent one for the time you are on holiday, the cost usually is between 70- 90 Euros a week, and for longer periods they will often discount.

If you need airport assistance getting on and off the plane etc you will have to arrange it BEFORE you go on holiday through your flight company or booking agency so the airport assistant can be notified in advance.

People who need to fly with special medical equipment like oxygen, special medication, needles, etc. need to check the airlines terms and conditions beforehand. In most cases like these, you are not permitted to travel without a personal assistance to help you.

Next blog I will tell you about the medical system, The Social Security, what to do in cases of an emergency and how to prepare yourself for your trip.

With joy love and pleasure

Smart Duty Free Shopping Tips

imagesCAW6F6CM 150x150 Smart Duty Free Shopping TipsGoods and merchandise sold in duty free shops are, of course, tax-free. However, there are certain things to look out for when shopping from such stores. You may be tempted to shop for items you don’t really need just because they are cheaper than stores outside of the duty free shop. If you have the privilege to shop inside a duty free store, you will find the following tips helpful and have the most from your allotted budget.

Limits

For many countries, there is a limit on how much you can purchase from a duty free shop. If you are a frequent traveler, you may reach your duty free limit and you may need to wait another thirty days before you claim your exemption. In short, your purchasing right is limited by existing rules. This is surely disadvantageous on your part especially if you have listed numerous items that you need to buy. However, this is not the case with all other countries. Therefore, you must be aware of the restrictions imposed upon duty free purchases by the country you visit or happen to stop over.

There are also limits when it comes to alcoholic beverages and tobacco. In the United States, you can only buy one liter of alcohol and just a carton of cigarettes. Buying a duty free item in one country may be subject to tax if the traveler entered another country, and it exceeded the allowable quantity or allowed exemptions. So, to benefit from the tax free item, either consume it in the country where the duty free shop is located or do not exceed the allowable exemptions imposed by the country you intend to visit.
