imagesCAY0LVTT 150x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. For somebody that is diagnosed with a disease, injury or other physical problems, that forces them to depend on other people,  a wheelchair, or various medical adjustments, it is sometimes unthinkable to go on holiday outside the Country of their residence.

There are not only problems they may find when travelling, but also problems where they can actually go that is suitable, and the things they have to arrange beforehand? Do they get to go on organized trips solely with handicapped people, or can they go alone? If they can go alone, can it be with friends or partners, is the medical system adequate for their needs as well? What suitable accommodation is available and where?

A lot of questions, so may I take you on an inside tour of the Costa Blanca for people with possible disability problems.

Because the Costa Blanca has a lot to offer and there is a lot of people there who understand this genuine ´problem´, it is possible that everyone can have a wonderful holiday in Spain.

They have adapted many things  in and around the accommodation for wheelchair access but have still managed to keep the villa looking like a holiday resort instead of a nursing home.

Another great asset is the Home Care Service that you can find all over the Costa Blanca. Not only are they so pleasant but there are several agencies available who speak several languages to accommodate your needs. These agencies provide a helping hand when required, for example, house keeping. They have fully qualified staff, Nurses and Care Assistants.  They can even help you organize and manage your day trips etc.

They will also help you when required for hospital checkups etc; they can also provide special care when needed.

Maybe this will guide you to having a lovely holiday in Spain.

Find the right transportation and accommodation.

May I remind you that the private villa’s not always are mentioned in the tour operator’s accommodations list?

By typing in the right keywords on Google you hopefully will find a lot of remarkable accommodations.

Flying

imagesCA4RHN9H 150x150 How to holiday on the Costa Blanca with mobility problems or handicaps. As for the flight most of us want to fly low cost, but that can create restrictions like the amount of baggage, space to sit, and flight attention etc. Flying low cost can also create extra costs if you want to take extra needed baggage, so your ticket may be surprisingly expensive….

Some airlines will allow it but it is restricted to certain measurements such as height and length etc. My advice is to rent one for the time you are on holiday, the cost usually is between 70- 90 Euros a week, and for longer periods they will often discount.

If you need airport assistance getting on and off the plane etc you will have to arrange it BEFORE you go on holiday through your flight company or booking agency so the airport assistant can be notified in advance.

People who need to fly with special medical equipment like oxygen, special medication, needles, etc. need to check the airlines terms and conditions beforehand. In most cases like these, you are not permitted to travel without a personal assistance to help you.

Next blog I will tell you about the medical system, The Social Security, what to do in cases of an emergency and how to prepare yourself for your trip.

With joy love and pleasure
